Eligibility

Entries are invited from UK businesses that are eligible to pay corporation tax in the UK. The other criteria are:

  • The entry must be for a specific product, process or management project which is clearly defined and exemplary in itself.
  • The project must be substantially complete at the time of entry or have been completed within the past two years.
  • Tangible results must be available that demonstrate environmental leadership in the sector and the financial viability of the project.
  • The environment must be embedded within the business model of the organisation. It must be part of the corporate philosophy and practice.

A correctly completed and eligible application form must be submitted.

The entry requirements must be adhered to.

Entry to the BCE Environmental Leadership Awards is free and there is no charge to attend the awards ceremony.

Only one application per company.

Application process

The BCE panel has established a rigorous assessment procedure to ensure that each application is reviewed fairly. The following is a snapshot of the process.

Step One: Prepare your application (ensuring you are eligible) and apply before the closing date (for the 2009 awards, the closing date is Monday 6th October 2008 ). Your entry will be acknowledged via e-mail and all entrants are informed of their progress and the eventual outcome.

Step Two: The first stage assessment takes place in October where the top 45-50 entries are determined by members of the Technical Assessors Panel. Each application is reviewed and scored against the criteria.

Step Three: The top scoring 30 entries are visited by a member of the Technical Assessors Panel between November and the end of January. In general, the panel visits last 2-3 hours.

Step Four: Finally, in February the Technical Assessors Panel convenes to review all the entries visited and every entry is discussed in full. The panel as a whole decides on who the winners are. All entries are informed of their outcome in March. The names of the award winners are officially announced at an 'invitation only' awards ceremony in June. Invitations are usually offered to all those companies who have been visited by a panellist in step three.

“The award acts as a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved at InterfaceFLOR. Throughout each and every level of the company, there is a real belief in what we are trying to do. Hopefully other businesses, both large and small will see what can be achieved and follow us on our quest to be 100% sustainable"

Eddie Bingham, UK Engineering Director, of InterfaceFLOR winner of the 2005 Peter Parker Award.

The benefits of entering

Entering the Awards has many benefits: here are a few suggested by those who have taken part in past years.

  • Recognition - both customers and the business community recognise the credibility of the Awards.
  • Association - winners become aligned with innovation, ethical trading and best practice.
  • Motivation - the Awards can give recognition to the people within the business.
  • Exposure - winners are actively promoted by BCE, supported by the Brunswick Group and receive a high level of interest from national, regional and trade publications.
