MarshallsInnovation and Improvements in water treatment and waste management methods in new and existing factories.
The company is leading the way within the industry in reducing water usage and waste disposal. A combination of process water treatment and the use of captured rain water have been introduced in one new factory and is almost completed in an older existing one. In the case of the new plant, a 90% reduction in mains water consumption was achieved, in addition to a reduction in process waste to landfill of 9,500 tonnes. The effect on the local community in the location of the older plant has been of great benefit with previous water supply and pressure problems now having been alleviated. At the same time, the company has benefited in cost savings from the reduction of mains water usage by 65% and of discharge process water by over 90% in less than 3 years at this site. Work proceeds to become self sufficient in water usage in the near future. With many of the innovations being designed in-house, the company continues to roll out the best practice achieved to its other manufacturing sites.
