ASDA
Packaging reduction
ASDA decided to redesign its own-brand packaging to significantly reduce the amount of waste produced by its customers and to deliver cost savings to the business - allowing it to maintain low prices. The redesign was based around three simple principles:
Remove - wherever possible, the retail packaging was eliminated and the product sold loose. Unnecessary components were removed.
Reduce - packaging weight and pack volume were minimised.
Recycle - packaging was made recyclable and, where possible, contained recycled material.
ASDA set a 25% reduction target and took an integrated approach, encompassing all of its own-brand products and engaging its stakeholders, while running groundbreaking initiatives to support and drive innovation in the delivery of its goals.
