Presented at The Lincoln Centre, London on 4th June 2007 by Sir Anthony Cleaver, President of the BCE Environmental Leadership Awards The Co-operative Group The Co-operative Group is among the world's leading businesses when assessed on its response to global climate change, an integral part of its approach to sustainability, and has reduced operational CO2 emissions by 86%. Green electricity covers 98% of their electricity supply – 680 GWh/year. In addition, the Co-operative Bank's Ethical Policy states that "we will not invest in any business whose core activity contributes to climate change, through the extraction or production of fossil fuels". They offer a green mortgage package, encourage customers to lobby for reducing CO2 and are investing £1.5 million in solar panels for schools at no cost to the school.
