Workshop move
This small company, which handcrafts beds and furniture in London, recently moved to a bigger and more environmentally efficient workshop. With the help of Envirowise and the Carbon Trust, Warren Evans invested in new, more-efficient equipment for the workshop and a biomass boiler that heats the building using waste wood as fuel. This prevents two massive skips of waste being sent to landfill each week. The new machinery makes the most efficient use of the wood by recognising knots and other flaws to find the best place to cut it. The company also gained FSC certification and is the only UK bed maker to be certified.
